About the Bantam Cochin

And boy is this one sweet bird! They are very, very people friendly; love to be held and talked to by their humans.

A  great bird if you are limited on space but want some real backyard eye candy to enjoy!  Because they are tiny and have extremely heavily feathered shanks, this bird should never be left to free range without supervision of a person or very well trained lgd.  They prefer to hang out in their coops or in a small garden (where they will do little harm).

Chicken Breeds:

Appearance

The calico is a new color in the bantam cochin world. Imagine taking a milky way candy bar and leaving it to melt in the hot sun.  The blend of carmel, chocolate, white and butterscotch round out the sweetness that is the calico cochin.

Egg Production

Hens will lay approximately between 180-200 eggs per year.

Weight

Average weight for a hen is around 1-2 lbs. Cocks average weight around 2-3 lbs.

Habitat

Can tolerate some cold but should be moved to a heated coop in the winter if temperatures fall below 30.  They simply do not have the body mass to stay warm in very frigid temperatures.

The result is magical! Deep black head covered in soft blue feathers...seeing is believing!

"Often, people bemoan the prices charged by breeders who are at the top of their game, which is somewhat perplexing. If you are serious about wanting the best possible stock, the initial outlay should never be a consideration.

The price you pay for ignoring this advice and settling for average stock will prove much more costly. Good stock should be ʻpricelessʼ because you are buying in decades worth of committed breeding by dedicated fanciers, and the ultimate shortcut. "
